Azealia Banks may be beloved by fashion’s elite, but the feeling may not be completely mutual.
In an interview with HYPETRAK, the Rapunzel raptress sees all of the fashionable focus she’s received as detrimental to the longevity of her hip hop career.
“I think that too much fashion attention as an artist can actually smother you, and it can actually really, really distract form your music. I almost got there with it where…I was this fashion darling. And I was putting out records and the only record anyone would listen to was ’212,’ that was the only Azealia Banks record people would listen to.”
Since I have never been a rapper or singer with the fashion world breathing down my neck, I am not capable of providing an informed opinion. However, if outside forces make it difficult to see the path to your goals or the things you love most, then perhaps Banks is onto something. I would love to know you thoughts.
