“When you think of makeup, the brand that pops into your mind — for something legit — is MAC. Whatever color you want, it’s like ‘Let’s go to MAC.’ I’ve been using MAC on tour for such a long time it was a natural fit for me. I have always loved makeup, and I always said that if I do it, I want to do it with a credible brand.”
This is the first time the cosmetic company has teamed with a celebrity for such an expansive, long-term collaborative partnership.
Each set, affectionately named Riri [Hearts] M-A-C, will center around its signature color, “Riri Woo,” a play on the famous “Ruby Woo” hue. “Riri Woo” will be available online May 4 and 5 at her ‘Diamonds Tour’ performances at the Barclays Center. The latter collections will be available seasonally, with the the next drop Summer 2013 featuring two additional lipsticks, powder blush duo and a Lustre Drops shade. As for the Fall collection, expect to see a Lipglass variant of the Riri Woo in addition to four lipsticks, two multishade eye shadow palettes and false lashes. The Holiday offerings will add another 10 items to the mix with nail polish, a makeup bag and additional lipsticks.
John Demsey, group president MAC’s parent company, Estée Lauder Cos. Inc., wants it to be clear that Rihanna was very hands on with these efforts.
“This was not a front… This is a true, organic collaboration based on mutual admiration and respect. These four collections are like four tracks on a Rihanna compilation. Each one has its own vibe, look, special makeup packaging and flavor. This is really the convergence of pop culture, fast fashion, and iconic style and makeup.”
By show of hands, will you be dropping a few coins in the bucket for this Rihanna x M-A-C collection?
