Fashion’s Night Out To Take A Break in 2013

Fashions-Night-Out-break

You read correctly. According to WWD, Fashion’s Night Out will be having a seat this coming September. However, this timeout is only specific to FNO here in NY. While the rest of the world will continue on the new Fashion Week tradition, FNO NY will be resting on the bleachers.  Seeing its biggest consumer climb in 2012, Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and NYC & Co. decided to cut out this year’s festivities in an effort to help retailers and designers focus their budgets on other endeavors aside from the big Condé Nast funded global party of the year. There were also some complaints from designers who were debuting their collections at the same time as the Fashion’s Night Out takeover.

“We are immensely proud of the program and are grateful to all of our partners in fashion and retail,” says Steven Kolb, chief executive officer of the CFDA. “In addition to giving retailers a positive boost, Fashion’s Night Out also served to highlight the incredible economic impact and the millions of jobs that the fashion industry supports.”

FNO has raised over $1.5 million for the New York City AIDS fun in the New York Community Trust.

I’ve been to every FNO NY minus 2012 since its inception. Hopefully this siesta will give all participating parties time to rethink the planning and perhaps come back with a revamped, budget-friendly version of the party in 2014. Oh FNO, you will be missed.

Sincerely,
The Fashion’s Night Out Team
