It’s Tuesday, but in my mind, it’s Friday because in less than 24 hours, I will be heading to the Sunshine State to celebrate my mother’s birthday and my nephew’s high school graduation. So please, in the words of Kendrick Lamar, “B***h Don’t Kill My Vibe.”
At first glance, the video for the lyricist’s latest single seems like a funeral turned after party. But from an artistic standpoint, the video eerily feels like the rapper is attending his own funeral with visual double entendres from the perspective of Kendrick’s death from this life versus his fun filled perspective in the afterlife. The bearing of the casket into the hearse quickly becomes a “turnt up” limousine, the final burial is an elbow throwing party in the field.
The video treatment is reminiscent of Puff Daddy’s “I’ll Be Missing You” while seemingly providing homage to Bone Thugs n Harmony’s, “Crossroads” with a touch of Kendrick’s flare for social events.
Special appearance by comedian Mike Epps who “baptizes” Lamar in a “pool full of liquor.” LOL
The song is featured on Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city available now.
