Today is a good day for Hip Hop.
Big Sean’s “Control” featuring Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica has already solidified itself as a game changing record in the hip hop community.
And though I am NOT the most well versed young woman on the genre, one thing is for sure, Lamar stepped up to the plate and declared competition set between him and his fellow lyricist friends. Sure Big Sean and Jay brought their own musical flavor to the song, Kendrick took the single and murdered it.
With lines like this, I am unsure how any of the young heavyweight MCs can find themselves sitting idly on the sidelines. I don’t think this is musical beef. This is a call to be better, And for those not mentioned, you now have a reason to step up:
I heard the barbershops be in great debates all the time
Bout who’s the best MC? Kendrick, Jigga and Nas
Eminem, Andre 3000, the rest of y’all
New niggas just new niggas, don’t get involved
And I ain’t rockin no more designer shit
White T’s and Nike Cortez, this is red Corvettes anonymous
I’m usually homeboys with the same niggas I’m rhymin’ wit
But this is hip hop and them niggas should know what time it is
And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale
Pusha T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake
Big Sean, Jay Electron’, Tyler, Mac Miller
I got love for you all but I’m tryna murder you niggas
Tryna make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas
They dont wanna hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas
What is competition? I’m tryna raise the bar high
Who tryna jump and get it? You better off tryna skydive
Though the single will not be on Sean’s new Hall Of Fame album, this is a great way to get some attention pointed his way, even if we’re all talking about K. Dot. Great marketing I tell you.
Here for it I say!!! I am soooo here for it!!!
