Laying all speculation to rest, it has been confirmed that Mr. Shawn of the Knowles-Carter clan has in fact been tapped to create a specialty design collection with illustrious Barneys New York.
Can the church say “decadence”? The biggest of fashion houses are being summoned for the feat including Balmain, Balenciaga, Lanvin, Proenza Schouler, Rick Owens, Acne Studios, Stutterheim, En Noir, Cutler & Gross and The Elder Statesman to create an exclusive men’s collection that will have the ladies green with intense amounts of envy.
The collection is so typical New York: black sophistication offset by white, gold and silver sure to kill the style game.
But for those of that don’t mind crossing the gender borders, Proenza has developed a men’s bag for the occasion as has Balenciaga designed a gorgeous leather backpack.
You know the collection wouldn’t be complete without a Hublot watch thrown into the mix. Black alligator straps adorn the yellow gold accoutrement set to retail at $33,900 aka almost my entire annual income.
Other noteworthy items include this Stutterheim raincoat,
The Elder Statesmen blanket (also creating a ski mask not shown),
and this Balmain scarf plus much, much MUCH more.
On the project,
“With this project, Barneys New York and I were able to take the slickness, energy and innovation of New York City and translate that into quality, timeless pieces…Everything that encompasses ‘A New York Holiday’ — the items chosen, the amazing designers that participated, the windows, the design of the BNY SCC Gallery — represents a perfect example of a unique and groundbreaking collaboration that I hope demonstrates how inspiring New York has been to me,”
says Carter of the collaboration.
Barneys CEO Mark Lee is honored to have the multi-hyphenate on board for the effort.
“We are proud to honor our home, the great city of New York, this holiday season—and there is absolutely no one better to collaborate with on this project than the New York born and bred Shawn ‘JAY Z’ Carter. He is a groundbreaking musician, a pioneering entrepreneur, and the ultimate creative collaborator,”
The collection will be available to the general public November 20 through January 3 with an unveiling at the “BNY SCC Gallery”, a massive pop-up shop dedicated to the partnership. 25 percent of the proceeds will go to the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation, Jay Z’s New York based charity dedicated to offering scholarships to students facing financial hardships. The collection will also be available online at Barneys.com.
Stay tuned for more.
